The Greek island of Thassos offers the perfect holiday feeling and is known as a quiet, relaxed destination. Greece’s northernmost island lies in the Aegean Sea just a few kilometres off the Macedonian mainland. Here the day is spent on dreamlike beaches and in hidden coves, while after sunset the restaurants, beach bars and tavernas fill up. There, locals and tourists alike enjoy good Greek cooking with authentic dishes and regional wines.
The former fishing village of Potos is a popular resort today. On the fine sandy beach with its gently shelving water lies the restaurant San Antonio Beach Multiplex, offering a wide range of traditional Mediterranean recipes. To astonish its guests not only visually and culinarily but acoustically too, the restaurant recently acquired a new sound system from MONACOR and IMG STAGELINE.
Requirement
This atmospheric location right on the beach has room for celebrations of every kind — weddings, private parties, family occasions or other events. Such a varied offering calls for a powerful sound system that provides punchy background music and holds exactly the right amount of extra headroom in reserve for the occasional party or event.
Beach bars, cafés and restaurants are demanding environments for electronic equipment and therefore for speakers too: sand, dust and salt water call for rugged, durable speakers of the highest build quality. The project required flexible multi-zone sound allowing material to be sent selectively to the five speaker lines. Source material from the MPX-40DMP stereo DJ mixer and/or from a laptop was to reach each area in the highest quality and be levelled individually there.
Solution
For the roughly 200 m2 of space, San Antonio Beach Multiplex owner Tassos Kapsogeorgis chose ten PAB-586/WS PA speakers in total, each rated at 100 W. As 2-way full-range systems with a frequency response from 65 to 20,000 Hz, these speakers deliver clear highs and defined bass.

The new speakers play to their strengths especially at the regular events with live bands and artists. “Previously we also needed a separate, mobile sound system for live music. Now we can do without it and run every event from a single system.” The speakers also prove their versatility in terms of placement and mounting: installed horizontally and angled slightly downwards, they direct their sound at the audience over a wide angle.
The five speaker lines, or zones, are driven by an STA-2000D class-D power amplifier with 4 x 500 W (into 4 Ω) and an STA-1000D stereo PA class-D amplifier with 2 x 500 W. A DSP-26 digital speaker management system from IMG STAGELINE acts as the control centre for signal distribution and adaptation to the individual zones. Equipped with state-of-the-art DSP processors and digital converters, the unit combines an active crossover, parametric equaliser, delay and peak limiter in a single device. All functions and settings can be varied for up to six output channels. Configurations can be stored in the unit and recalled whenever needed.
“At peak times especially we do not have the resources to configure settings or change the music. With the new sound system we no longer have to think about it at all. The sound convinced us straight away, and our guests noticed the very good sound immediately too.”
The decision to build the whole installation from MONACOR and IMG STAGELINE components rests on the positive experience Kapsogeorgis has had with the manufacturer so far: “I had been toying with the idea of replacing the old audio system for a long time. The previous MONACOR system served us well for more than 18 years. But it no longer met our growing requirements and was no longer up to date.” Kapsogeorgis particularly values the high reliability and the perfectly matched product range, which made for a straightforward and rapid implementation.
