Elephants wallow in puddles, pelicans relax by the lake, monkeys leap from tree to tree and exotic birds sing their finest songs. At Schwerin Zoo, visitors experience fascinating animals from all over the world up close.
More than 2,400 animals of 154 species are at home in Schwerin Zoological Garden. The naturalistic enclosures with tigers, rhinos, giraffes and more have delighted young and old for many years. With more than 200,000 visitors a year, Schwerin Zoo is one of the tourist magnets of the capital of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

Idyllically embedded in nature between the Schwerin lakes and the zoo ponds lies the restaurant Vielfalter, where crispy schnitzel, fresh salads and delicious pasta are on the menu. The Vielfalter bistro at the zoo, right next to the elephant enclosure, offers zoo visitors a very special culinary break in unusual surroundings. Freshly fortified, nothing stands in the way of the rest of the visit.
In 2021 the Dreescher Werkstätten, one of the largest social service providers and employers in Schwerin, took over the inn at Schwerin Zoo and reopened it as the inclusive Vielfalter bistro at the zoo, where people with and without disabilities now work as a team. For their new catering concept, the Dreescher Werkstätten rebuilt large parts of the former inn.
Requirement
As part of the rebuilding, the restaurant building was fitted with a professional sound system. Together with MONACOR partner Veranstaltungstechnik und -management Bernd Wilbrecht, background sound was implemented for the bistro including the sanitary rooms. Besides dependable background music, the system was above all to offer a variety of audio sources and several connection options for microphones. That way smaller private celebrations of every kind can be held with the right sound in future.
Solution
The dining room is covered by high-quality ETS-442TW/WS PA column speakers in a 2-way design. The tiltable and swivelling aluminium wall bracket allows precise aiming. For reinforced bass frequencies, a compact, slim on-wall subwoofer ESUB-6W/WS is used in addition. Its form allows it to be integrated unobtrusively into existing rooms. Discreet EDL-118TW ceiling speakers are installed in the sanitary rooms. Speakers and subwoofer are driven by a PA-4120 100 V power amplifier with 4 x 120 W.
Routing of the audio signals is handled by an MPX-4PA zone mixer for up to 3 zones: the dining room, the sanitary rooms and the terrace are reliably supplied with background music through it. Extensive settings such as 3-band tone control, an LED level display of the stereo sum, a balance control, pre-fade listening (PFL) and mono/stereo switching round off the feature set.
Music comes from the versatile WAP-202 multiplayer. The unit combines USB, FM, DAB, LAN, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, internet radio, UPnP compatibility and multiroom functions, and convinces with high build quality, fast loading times and intuitive operation.
